Features:
This route explores the paths along the Odense River headed east of town. It’s up to 5 km one-way to Åsum. As an alternative to an out and back, we’ve created a grand, ~14 km loop around outer Odense, nearly all off-road, and an add-on option in Munkedammen.
Starting at Eventyrhaven Park near the center of town, head east on the dirt/gravel path along the north side of the river. Then path is mainly wooded and somewhat narrow. There are some views of the water (more so in winter). There are some small, pleasant parks along the way. It’s up to 5.1 km to Åsumvej in Åsum.
Loop Option. Instead of an out and back, we’ve mapped a loop option. From Åsumvej, head north for 3 km on a gravel path through the Lungs Grave nature preserve. At the 165 Road, head west, and then continue south on the paths through the Bøgeparken area. On the north side of the soccer field, join the paved Kertemindestien cycle path for 3.3 km to the central Odense train station, and complete the loop past Odense Castle & the center of town.
Munkedammen Park Add-On. A nice add-on, or do part of the river east route and incorporate this. At the 1.9 km mark of our mapped route at the sewage treatment plant, take Ejby Møllevej south, do a loop around the perimeter of Kirkegården cemetery, and then 1.5 km on the path through Munkedammen Park.
Add-Ons: Can combine with our Odense River path headed south through Munke Mose.
- River path is up to 5.1 km east to Åsum; Grand loop is 13.8 km (8.6 miles); Munkedammen Park add-on is 3.5 km one-way
- River section is flat
- Eventyrhaven Park
