Odense, the capital of Fyn, birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, and third largest city in Denmark, is located on the island of Funen.  The Odense River flows south of the city centre, and the scenic Odense Fjord and the Baltic Sea are 25 km north. A good network of waterfront trails, parks, and cycle paths make running in Odense a pleasure.

Get oriented with our ‘runseeing‘ tour of Odense, which includes the compact historic centre (and all things H.C. Andersen), river paths, and parks. We also have two separate routes showcasing the Odense River. Among the best places to run in Odense is the path along the western end of Odense Fjord. There’s nice running around the SDU campus, including a unique running track. In western Odense, we’ve put together a nice route combining several parks. For a destination run, head north to Hasmark, and run on a beachside path as far as Enebærodde Fyr lighthouse.

A new tram line features 26 stops. Runners should be aware that it can be overcast and dark in winter…though not as cold as the city’s latitude would dictate.
