Quito, Ecuador

El Panecillo

From almost anywhere in Quito, the 45 meter madonna statue atop El Panecillo (the little loaf of bread) hill just south of Old Town is the visible centerpiece. It’s also a popular tourist attraction, with buses that carry visitors up and down the hill to enjoy the views. Runners in search of a fun challenge can run up the hill using the sidewalk along Ramon Nava/Gral Melchor Aymerich. It’s quite the hill workout, especially given the already high elevation of Quito city, but the views from the top of the hill are terrific.

Do this route as a nearly 5 km out and back, or as a great add-on to our Centro Histórico tour.
