Ocean City & Rehoboth Beach

Cape Henlopen State Park

Gordons Pond Trail - Author Photo

Cape Henlopen State Park is a large state park on the ocean about six miles north of Rehoboth Beach. There is a really nice variety here: miles of unspoiled beach which is terrific for running, and several miles of multi-use paths winding their way through pine forests, dunes, and salt marsh.

Our hands-down favorite for running is the Gordons Pond Trail, which runs between Gordons Park State Park near Rehoboth Beach, through Cape Heoplen SP. This firm cinder trail passes through pine forest, and has great views of large dunes and salt marshes. There’s a nearly 0.5 mile boardwalk. We also enjoy running the 3.3 mile Bike Loop (red trail on the map), and several smaller nature trails.

Add-Ons: From the eastern and of Gordons Pond Trail, it’s 1 mile south to Rehoboth Beach. We also recommend running in Lewes, a cute coastal town 2 miles north of Cape Henoplen State Park. There’s a bike path alongside Cape Henoplen Dr.
