There’s a vast collection of hilly canyons just east and west of I-280 between Belmont and Cupertino. In Belmont, there are two areas: San Juan Canyon Open Space and Waterdog Lake Open Space.

San Juan Canyon Open Space & Laurelwood Park. San Juan Canyon has 35 acres and connects to 225 acres at Laurelwood Park, with access to Sugarloaf mountain. A combination of trails and fire roads. Between the two areas, 3-4 miles. Generally good footing, but HILLY! There are kiosks with trail maps. Accesss off Marsten Rd.

Waterdog Lake & Open Space. Just south of San Juan Canyon. 260 acres of trails, similar to the above. A combination of easier fire roads and some steeper, trickier trails. Combination of woods and open areas. Access off Ralston Ave.
