Snow Canyon State Park

Snow Canyon State Park is a favorite for running in St. George. The 7,400-acre scenic park, located in the 62,000-acre Red Cliffs Desert
Reserve, is tucked amid lava flows and soaring
sandstone cliffs. There’s a three-mile paved walking/biking trail, 38 miles of hiking trails, and 15+ miles of equestrian trails in a strikingly colorful and fragile desert environment.

This brochure has terrific information on the various trail options. For running, we recommend:

Whiptail Trail: Paved multi-use trail that’s up to 6 miles out and back. For even longer, can continue on the Snow Canyon Trail, which follows Snow Canyhon Rd., for another ~4 miles.  MAP

West Canyon Rd. This trail follows a maintenance road winding past dry washes and towering cliffs to the head of present-day Snow Canyon. An easier gravel and sand surface, fairly level. Up to 8 miles out and back.

The other trails in the park range from moderate to challenging trail running, with some tougher surfaces. See the park brochure for more detailed trail descriptions and a trail map.
