D&L Canal Trail

Bradford Van Arnum

The Delaware and Lehigh Canal Trail is another long multi-use trail that can be accessed from Trenton. It’s sort of a companion to the D&R Trail, paralleling the D&R along the west side of the Delaware River — officially in Pennsylvania. The flat, gravel path, also known as the Delaware Canal Towpath, runs for many miles along the historic canal. The nicer section is northwest from Trenton. We’ve mapped up to 23 miles to Point Pleasant. The first 10 miles are right along the canal, and miles 10-23 follow the west side of the Delaware River. It’s mainly tree-shaded, with water views a good part of the way.

We’ve also mapped 12 miles of the path south toward Bristol. The section around Trenton isn’t very scenic. The nicest part is miles 5-8 in the Falls Lake area.

NOTE: There are some sections that aren’t complete or are being improved. See this web site for the latest information.
