Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar ‘Runseeing’ Tour

Outside the National Park, the central, ‘historic’ part of Ulaanbaatar is the other ‘feasible’ place for a run in a city that’s challenging for running. The streets in the center of the city are wide and feature decent sidewalks. We’ve put together a 6 km route that you can use a guideline to hit the highlights. Not a beautiful run…but runnable!

Start in Sükhbaatar Square, in the government district, which is the center of Ulaanbaatar. It’s a large, imposing square, with a large statue of Genghis Khan (Chinggis Khan). You can run inside the square, and do a loop of the streets on either side (wide, multi-lane roads, but decent sidewalks). At the Genghis Khan Museum, RIGHT on Sambuu St., passing the Fine Arts Zanabazar Museum, Supreme Court, then LEFT on Baruun Selbe St. For the next section, you can run along Peace St., which is a major shopping thoroughfare, and Seoul St., which passes the Presidential Palace and Tsedenbal Square Park.
