Los Angeles: North to Santa Barbara

Ventura Promenade, Coastal Highway, & Beach

Dmitry Rogozhin

The Ventura Promenade is the best paved coastal run between Malibu and Santa Barbara. This paved multi-use path runs for ~3 miles between Surfer’s Point (right near downtown Ventura) and Marina Park, skimming the coast of Pierpont Bay. There are great views of the Pacific, and of the boats around Marina Park. Popular with runners! For another ~1 mile, the path extends from the beach to E Main St. in downtown Ventura.

One can also run a section of the old Pacific Coast Highway. A bike path starts just off Highway 101 at the northern end of Seaside Wilderness Park and connects with the Pacific Coast Highway, where there’s a good shoulder for running. The best coastal section is for 3 miles to Solimar Beach, where the road turns more inland.

Ventura Beach is also very runnable — nice and wide in most spots, and with firm sand near the water.
