Although the paths along the Perfume River are the most popular place to run in Huế, it’s also possible to run along the sông An Cựu River. The extends south from where it meets the Perfume River near the Huế Train Station. Although there’s not a dedicated path, there are decent sidewalks alongside the Phan Chu Trinh Rd. on the south bank and Phan Đình Phùng Rd. on the north bank. Note: Best to go early when there are fewer people on the sidewalk.
We’ve mapped a neat 5.2 km loop starting at from near the train station where the sông An Cựu runs into the Perfume River. Head east along the north bank of the river for 2.5 km to Hùng Vương. There are views of the narrow river much of the way, and a busy street scene. Cross the small bridge to the south bank and return to the start.
Add-Ons: The start point of the sông An Cựu River route is also where you can join the paths along the Perfume River. Run along the south bank, headed east from the Song Huong performing arts theater & Hue University, or cross the Cầu Dã Viên Bridge to run along the north bank.
