This is a short ‘runseeing’ tour of Vigo’s historic centre, showcasing the hilltop park around the Castelo do Castro. Note this involves a climb of 120m! Note that the port area isn’t easily reachable by foot from the centre and isn’t very runnable.
Start with a ~1.5 km loop around the Alameda da Praza garden promenade, the Praza Estrella, and the Xardíns das Avenidas park, with its several monuments and sculptures. Then run uphill through the maze-like streets of the historic centre, passing the Basílica de Santa María de Vigo and the Castelo de San Sebastián. Use P. Granada to approach the Castelo do Castro park. Here, you can do a 1.5-2 km loop around its scenic, hilly paths. Exit the south end of the park, turn RIGHT on Rúa da Ronda de Don Bosco, and then use Rúa Velázquez Moreno, a pedestrian-friendly commercial street, to return to the Alameda.
Pro Tip:Vigo is home to one of the most spectacular holiday light displays in the world: 11 million LED lights and 450 Christmas trees across more than 400 streets. When there in season, pick up a map of the displays. You’ll see them in our Old Section and the newer section around the Parque de Castrelos.

Terrific waterfront running located ~5 km of the center of Vigo, on the Paseo Marítimo around the Bouzas Port, and then along Samil Beach and several other smaller beaches. Great views of the Ria de Vigo bay. Beach also runnable!
A pleasant 10k route in the more modern section of Vigo highlighting three parks: the Parque de Castrelos, with its historic gardens; the path along the Rio Lagares (river), and the narrow, linear Paseo de Coia.
A scenic, challenging run to a restored 16th-century hilltop hermitage, where you'll be rewarded with fantastic views of Vigo and its estuary. There's a flat section along the beach and the base of the Monte, and then a 100m climb over 1 km.
Trail runners will find 130 km of hiking trails in the mountains around Vigo. These are well-waymarked trails of various distance & difficulty options. Hills, views, olive groves, forests, & more! We've provided links to additional information.
