This lovely paved trail, on the southwest side of the city, is one of the most popular for walkers and runners, and winds through a mix of urban and residential spaces. It intersects with the Santa Fe Rail Trail a little north of I-25, so combining the paths in either direction makes a good extension for anyone who prefers pavement to running on dirt. If you arrive by car, the best parking is available at the Genoveva Chavez Center or at Sam’s Club (on the west side of the trail).

Santa Fe is known for its history and artistry — you can get a dose of both while running through the East Side neighborhood, the site of some of the city’s grandest homes and the historic Plaza, with its walkway of Native handmade offerings, shops, and eateries.
Local experts describe Atalaya Mountain as “crazy steep,” so it should only be attempted by experienced trail runners. However, due to its impressive summit views and close proximity to town, Atalaya is one of the most popular trails in the Santa Fe region.
A favorite among road runners. Paved road runs gradually uphill through open, scrub-like terrain, with some nice views. Good option for a longer training run. We recommend starting at Amelia White Park.
A scenic 4 mile loop around Pueblo Canyon in Las Alamos. The highlight is the bridge across the canyon. Los Alamos is 30 miles northwest of Santa Fe and is a popular visitor destination. Several other scenic trails in the area for hiking/trail running there as well.
