The Isle of Wight features many spectacular beaches. Some are more pebbly and not great for running, while others have lovely aprons of firm sand, particularly at low tide. Here are some of our favorite Isle of Wight beaches for running:
Sandown/Yaverland Beaches. Wide sandy beaches in this area. Can combine with a nice paved esplanade in the area. Several miles possible here, depending on season & tides.
Ryde Beach. Wonderful sand beach can extend for a few miles, especially at low tide. Fun to combine with a jaunt out Ryde Pier and the beautiful paved esplanade that goes for 2.5 miles to Seaview.
Compton Beach. Geograph.co.uk
Compton Beach. 2-3 miles of wide, sandy beach, headed a bit south of Compton Beach and then north toward Freshwater Bay. Can be combined with the clifftop ‘downlands’ in this Area of Outsdanding Natural Beauty, which is gorgeous.

Lovely running at the west end of the island. Run out to the Needles viewpoint, and then on the Tennyson Trail -- a beautiful coastal path. In Freshwater Bay, run for up to 10 miles east on clifftop trails ('Downs') to Brightstone.
The Coastal Path encircles the island for 67 miles and features spectacular coastal views from clifftop "downs". We've pointed out some of the easier sections for running, plus some scenic but more challenging stretches.
The Isle of Wight has some 200 miles of cycleways. combining dedicated paths with scenic, quiet roads. Here are recommendations for some of the best sections these mutli-use trails and roads for running.
