The moor trails are one of the must do running experiences in the Sheffield area. And Bracka Moor Nature Reserve is among the most spectacular. There are 181 hectares of wildlife-rich landscape, with a mix of heathland, woodland, scrub, grassland, streams and peat-bog. The trails are a mix of scenic bridleway around Blacka Pike and Blacka Plantation, and public footpaths in the southern part of the reserve. There are 3-4 miles of trails within Blacka Moor. It’s hilly, easy-to-moderate trail running.

For a longer run, we recommend the trails of the adjacent, even more extensive National Trust – Longshaw, Burbage and the Eastern Moors. There are many miles of scenic, hilly trails featuring spectacular views — a combination of ancient woods, parkland and heather moorland. The northern section is the Burbage series of trails. The southern section is Longshaw. There are several marked loop trails that can be combined for a longer run. Hilly, moderate trail running.

A pleasant run along a section of the River Ron and on trails through several adjacent parks near the city centre. Nice combination of water views, open fields, and wooded sections. Numerous opportunities to add on & vary.
Nice path along the River Don, passing five historic weirs (low dams). Optional 8-mile loop using canal towpath back to Sheffield. Or, run 7.6 miles to Rotherham, with the train back as an option!
Using the Porter Brook Trail, explore Endcliffe Park, Bingham Park, and Whitley Woods. Victorian-era parks with lovely grounds and beautiful woodlands. Note it's very hilly at the southern end.
A worth-it destination run, located ~10 miles east of Sheffield. The highlight is the 10k Trans Pennine Trail, which is a lovely, flat loop around the two main lakes. Fairly open terrain, and some nice water views.
A nice opportunity for a scenic, flat, off-road run not far from Sheffield. There's a 5k path around the perimeter of the reservoir, featuring nice views of the water and surrounding green hillside.
Combine Ecclesall Woods with an attractive section of the River Sheaf Walk for a nice combination of lovely woodland trails and park-like paths along the water.
