The waterfront promenade along the Magdalena River — the Malecón del Río — is the signature run in Barranquilla. A wide sidewalk/promenade path runs right along the water from Avenida del Río Park de Barranquilla north to the Puerta de Oro event center. It’s ~5 km one-way. There are great views of the river, and a festive atmosphere. The promenade is in good condition.
Landmarks along the way, from south to north: Aleta del Tiburón Junior monument (0.5 km); Shakira Statue (1.5 km); and the ‘recreation section’, which is a dedicated path away from the main road from km 3.2 to km 5.1. The best access point from the center of the city is Calle 72 (1-2 km).
There are numerous restaurants & bars along the way, and other recreational facilities. BONUS: Lit at night!
