The best place to run in the central part of Phnom Penh is the dedicated path through Sisowath Riverside Park. It’s in the area of the Royal Palace, Independence Monument, and other important monuments and temples. It’s a wide, dedicated waterfront path that runs for 2.2 km along the Tonle Sap River, to where it spills into the Mekong River. There are excellent views of the water, Phnom Penh skyline, and other important sites. Bonus: well-lit at night.

The north end of the Riverside Path is at the Night Market. Head for 2.2 km along the path to its southern end at the Fountain near the Kampong Chamlong ferry terminal. Since the out & back is a relatively short 4.4 km, there are some good add-ons in the area — see our ‘Runseeing’ tour and Chroy Changvar Peninsula routes.

Longer Run: From the southern end, run inland from the river along the wide promenade/park to the Statue of His Majesty Preah Bat and the Independence Monument (1.2 km). From there, head into Wat Botum Park, where you can do 0.6 km end-to-end laps. From the northern end of the park, some additional scenic running in the area of the Royal Palace & Park. Near the Night Market, you can also do a ~1 km loop on paths to the Wat Phnom Daun Penh, a Buddhist Temple built on site of 14th-century pagoda & the tallest religious structure in the Phnom Penh.
