Gachang Dam is a popular visitor spot for the its water views, greenery, mountain hiking, and Buddhist temples. Runners will find some good options here, including a decent sidewalk along the waterside road, and hill work options on road and on trails. Pro tip: post-run treat at the Hwanggeumdang Bakery near the bridge at the west end!

An easy, scenic option is alongside the dam on Heolti-ro. There’s a decent sidewalk that runs alongthe section of road between the Observation Deck near the Gachang-ro Bridge and a bridge at the west end, just south of the Hwanggeumdang Bakery. It’s 5 km out & back. There are great views of the reservoir and surrounding mountains. The area is lush and green.

To get in some hill work, a couple of options. For a paved road run, there’s a small road just over the bridge that leads to the Unheungsa Temple. There’s a narrow sidewalk, but the road doesn’t have too much traffic. It’s 2.2 km out & back, and 142m of elevation gain. There are also rugged, wooded, hilly trails in the mountains both north and south of the dam.
