Saint Clair Beach & Saint Kilda Beach, located in the southern part of Dunedin, are excellent beaches for running. The two beaches are adjacent to each other and combine for a length of nearly 3 km. They’re backed by dunes and are popular for swimming and surfing.
From a running perspective, the beaches are wide (tidally dependent) and flat and feature fairly reliable firm sand. It’s also possible to run long 2 km John Wilson Drive, which sits above the water. There are excellent views to the dunes and beach below. There’s a decent shoulder along part, in other parts it’s narrow and a bit soft.
