Baldwin St. is a residential street in the North East Valley of Dunedin. From North Rd., Baldwin St. climbs 70m over 0.36 km, with a grade of 35%. There’s a restroom off North Rd. to get your nerves up for this intense experience.
We recommend combining this experience with the Signal Hill area. Due north of Otago Harbour, Signal Hill rises to 393 feet, offering terrific views of the city and harbour below. There are both road and trail running options.

Signal Hill Road to Lookout. Signal Hill Road, which starts off Opoho Rd. at the northeast corner of the Botanic Garden, goes for 3 km to the Signal Hill Lookout. It’s a 246m elevation gain. The road is mainly wooded. Notes:No shoulder/sidewalk. Also, if connecting to Signal Hill Rd. from Baldwin St., use Dalmeny St.
Trail Option. Many km of hilly trails in Signal Hill Reserve. It’s a popular area for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking. The easiest/longest option for a trail run is The Big Easy. The switchback type trail nearly 11 km out & back, gaining 310m. There are many other trails in the Reserve. Caution: Mountain Bikers!

A scenic paved multi-use path winds around Otago Harbour for 31 km between Port Chalmers and Lower Portobello. Wonderful open views of the harbour and surrounding hills. Choose a section!
A wonderful 10k 'runseeing' tour of Dunedin, featuring historic streets of the commercial centre, important buildings & sites, a loop around Woodlaugh Gardens, & an outline tour of the city's famous Botanic Garden. Can add a running track @Logan Park.
Some of the easier trail running in Dunedin on several km of wooded, hilly trails. Reasonably wide with good footing. Combine with adjacent Woodhaugh Gardens for a longer run.
Excellent beach running on these adjacent dune-backed beaches located in the southern part of Dunedin. Up to 3 km, on these wide, flat beaches with firm sand. Can also run along John Wilson Drive above the water.
Some of the most scenic running anywhere, with roads and trails winding through a rolling hilly landscape of sheep farms, inlets & harbors, high cliffs and coastal roads. Beautifully green and spectacular coastal views.
