There are some 10 miles of scenic running trails around the sloughs in Redwood Shores — the waterfront community in Redwood City long the western shore of San Francisco Bay. A combination of paved and gravel paths follow the Bay and wind around Belmont Slough and Steinberger Slough. There are wonderful open views of the bay and wetlands, and lots of birds! At the west end near Highway 101 is Oracle HQ.
We’ve mapped two sections that you can use as a guideline to create your own route: from the San Mateo Bridge and around Belmont Slough; and a section around Steinberger Slough. These can be mixed & combined. If you park at the public lot near the Shores Elementary School, there’s good access to both Slough trails.
Bay and Belmont Slough: From the San Mateo Bridge, there’s 1.3 miles along San Francisco Bay, with wide open views. This is a continuation of our Bay Trail route that runs from San Bruno (SFO) to Foster City. The Bay Trail then continues along the northern end of Belmont Slough for ~2.5 miles to the Oracle HQ, then winds around the southern side, paralleling Oracle Pkwy & Bridge Pkwy for another ~3 miles, in the area of the Redwood Shores Branch Library.
Add-Ons: North of the San Mateo Bridge, follow our Bay Trail route north. You can also connect to our Steinberger Slough route @Shell Pkwy.
Steinberger Slough. This trail runs to the east of the Redwood Shores Lagoon & Belmont Channel. Mainly gravel trail along the north side of the Steinberger Slough for 2.3 miles., with some great wetland views. Can do a loop around Radio Point, making this a 6.8 mile run. Can connect to Belmont Slough (above) just across Marine Pkwy,
