There are nearly 8 km of seamless waterfront running in Burgas. It’s a festive scene, and there are great views of area beaches and the Black Sea. We’ve divided the route into three sections, which you can run separately or combine for a longer run! Pro Tip: Plan for the Therapeutic Pools with curative mud at the Saltpans post-run!
Burgas Area. This 6.3 km section runs through central Burgas, stretching north to the Saltpans and south to the Burgas Lighthouse. The northern ~1 km of the Salt Path & Bike Route is a dirt surface, and then it’s more roughly paved for another 1 km. The path paralleling the ~3 km of the Sea Garden is a smooth, paved multi-used path, with separate lanes for pedestrians and cyclists. We’ve also included a southern 0.7 km out the ferry pier to the lighthouse. There are lovely views of the water and a festive scene on the beach. The beach tends to have soft sand (and can be crowded), with some firmness near the water. A fun loop is to run one way on the path and the other through Sea Garden Park or along the beach. Note: Lit at night.
Sarafovo to Burgas Cycle Path. This section runs for up to 4 km north from the Saltpans to Sarafovo. Headed north, the first 1 km is along a wide dirt road, which is also used by cars. The next 3 km are on a dedicated concrete path right along the water, with wide open views to the sea. Our route includes 0.8 km around the scenic Sarafovo Docklands at the north end.
Sarafovo Beach and Piers. In Sarafovo north of the Docklands, we’ve added another 2.2 km, which includes a dirt path along Sarafovo Beach, and three piers which jut out into the sea. Sarafovo Beach itself is not especially runnable.
