The State Botanical Garden of Georgia, which is administered by the University of Georgia, is a great spot for a run. Located 5 miles south of Athens, the 313-acre garden has several themed garden, as well as 5 miles of walking trails. Note: Admission is free. Hours are 7am-7pm but can vary depending on season.

This particular Botanical Garden is suited for running, and running is permitted. You are able to run on any of the trails, though during crowded times, we recommend sticking to the outer perimeter trails — namely the White & Orange perimeter trails, which make for a ~4-5 mile loop. These trails, especially outside the more formal garden areas, are a combination of woodland and some restored prairie. Footing varies — it’s a mix of wider gravel paths, wood chips, grass/dirt, and some boardwalk sections.
