The lake loop around Westwood Lake Park is one of the most popular runs in Nanaimo. Westwood Lake Park is located in the western part of the city, in the foothills of Mt. Benson. The Westwood Lake Trail is a 5.5 km loop around Westwood Lake. It’s an excellent firm gravel trail, pretty flat, with a couple of wooded boardwalk sections. The landscape is mainly wooded with some lake views.

Start at the parking area off Westwood Rd. at the northeast section of the park. Follow the well-signed Westwood Lake Trail around the lake. At the southeast end of the lake, the official trail turns inland for a bit, but there’s also a trail alongside the lake. PRO TIP: In summer, the lake is a popular and life-guarded fresh water swimming spot!

Add-Ons. There are numerous additional trails in the park. They’re more rugged and hillier. Note: popular for mountain biking, keep an eye out!
