The Parkway Trail in Nanaimo is the longest paved multi-use path on Vancouver Island. The paved trail runs for 19 km from Colevilletown north to near Lantville, mostly paralleling the Parkway Highway (Highway 19/Nanaimo Parkway). There are some sections that are right along the highway (though completely separated), and some more wooded sections where the trail is a bit away from the road. It isn’t the most scenic run ever, but it’s a good opportunity to clock some miles, or use sections of it to add to other runs in Nanaimo or connect to some of our other routes in Nanaimo.
The south end is in Colevilletown off McKeown Way. Head north, along the east side of the highway for 4 km (Note: 100m climb between Km 1-4.5). At Colliery Dam Park, the trail leaves the Parkway for 4.4 km, with trail/road connections through Colliery Dam Park, along Wakesiah Ave. and through Third Street Park, before rejoining the Parkway at Jinglepot Rd.
From there, the Parkway Trail continues north, connecting to Buttertubs Marsh Park and then through Northfield and Wellington. The north end is just past the Woodgrove Center Mall.
Add-Ons: Connect to our Three Park route.
