Nordbahntrasse is one of the best places in for a longer, easy to follow off-road run in Wuppertal. Overall, this rail trail is 23 km long. We’ve mapped a 12 km segment from Vohwinkel to Wichlinghausen-Süd. It’s a great way to connect Wuppertal and Barmen. The trail is paved and features some hills — this being Wuppertal — but the grade is generally gentle. The route includes five illuminated tunnels and impressive brick viaducts that offer views over the rooftops of the city.
The west end of our mapped section is near the Vohwinkel trail station. Head northeast. The trail passes north of the central section of Elberfeld. KM 4 passes just to the north of Nützenberg park. At ~6.5 km (west to east) is the colorfol Lego Bridge. At ~9.5 km, the trail runs just north of central Barmen.
