Good Austin Residential Neighborhoods for Running

Old West Austin - Wikimedia Commons

This is a guide to the best residential neighborhoods for running in Austin: quiet streets, sidewalks, shade, and nice homes.

Mueller. A newer community, 4 miles east of downtown. Stitch together a nice run incorporating the residential streets, the 30-acre Mueller Lake Park (jogging trails), Northeast Greenway Park, and Bartholomew Park.

Old West Austin and Tarrytown. Just west of the University of Texas campus and the Capitol, pleasant running along the older streets of Old West Austin. Just west of the MoPac expressway, Tarrytown has quiet streets shaded by oak trees, and the Mayfield Nature Preserve at its northern end.

Round Rock – Teravista Residential Community. Just north of Old Settlers Park. Nice neighborhood running here, north of Old Settlers Blvd. and on either side of University Blvd.

Round Rock – Forest Creek neighborhood. East of Rt. 130 and off Forest Creek Dr. Nice homes and good shade.

Lakeway. Pretty and very hilly residential roads. The Hamilton Greenbelt is ~2.5 miles each way.
