Kennet and Avon Canal Towpath

Visit Bath/Nick Smith Photography

Linking the River Thames with the Bristol Channel, the 137 km (85 mile) Kennet and Avon Canal is bordered by a dirt towpath, one of the most prized spots for running in Bath. Idyllic scenery along the way includes stone bridges, historic locks, and riverboats cruising up and down the route. From Bath, runners can hop on the path near the Thimble Mill Pumping Station and head north along the Avon Canal for ~3.5 km to Bathampton. One of the top highlights along the way is the Sydney Gardens, just north of Bath. At Bathampton, the path bends south through Claverton and beyond.

The path is close by the Bath Skyline Trail, so there are lots of opportunities to connect or extend your run.
