Fayetteville is the second largest city in Arkansas. It’s part of the greater Northwest Arkansas metro area which has a population of 500,000. Fayetteville punches above its weight from a running perspective: a scenic location in the Boston Mountains, a subset of the Ozarks; known as the “Track Capital of the World” for the success and prestige of the University of Arkansas cross country and track & field programs; and featuring a large network of cycle paths that are also great for running. Our guide to running in Fayetteville also includes Bentonville & Rogers.

Fayetteville has an extensive network of centrally located multi-use trails that can be mixed and matched for a great run. See this excellent trail map. Our Fayetteville Grand Tour is a good way to see check out some of the trails and see the city’s highlights. Probably the best place to run in Fayetteville is the loop around Lake Fayetteville. Choose a section of the 40-mile Razorback Greenway, which runs north to Bella Vista. Trail runners will love Mt. Sequoyah Woods, the Markham Hill Nature Trails, and Kessler Mountain Regional Park. And see our guide to Bentonville for more in the area!

Runners should note that much of the terrain around Fayetteville is hilly. Also, summers can be very hot & humid.
