Run where the first humans resided in North America over 12,000 years ago! Red Mountain Open Space is a gorgeous 15,780-acre preserve located between Cheyenne and Fort Collins. There are 15 miles of multi-use trails passing by deep crimson and tan rocks, rolling grasslands, and sandy washes. This is hilly trail running. The trails vary in width and footing — it’s overall easy to moderate. NOTE: Closed in winter. Open March 1-November 30.

Red Mountain Open Space is divided into two areas, with separate access & parking areas: The Red Mountain Parking Lot, off Red Canyon Rd.; and the Soapstone Prairie Natural Area North Parking Lot, off Rawhide Flats Rd. The Canyon Trail and the Cheyenne Rim Trail connects the two areas. This brochure and trail map has good information on the trails.
