American University in Cairo Campus

Creative Commons: Tareknagah

The campus of the American University in Cairo offers an oasis for running. Located in the First New Cairo section of the city, the campus has numerous pedestrian walkways, gardens, and attractive, impressive buildings. A highlight is the fountain and garden near the university’s entrance. A loop of the main paths is ~4.5 km, but more can be added by exploring some additional sections. There’s also a centrally located running track. Our thanks to Salma Khaled for this route suggestion.

Add-Ons: Some of the streets just to the southwest of campus, around the Swarovski Point 90 mall, are also decent for running. There’s another running track at the Hei Schools. There are some additional quiet roads in adjacent residential compounds, but they might be gated/restricted.
