Cartagena, Colombia

Getsemani/Manga Waterfront

Reg Natarajan

This series of boardwalks includes a partial tour of Old Town Cartagena as well as the lively waterfront of the Manga neighborhood and its marinas. It’s another great option for any runner starting from Old Town.

Begin near the Santander Monument and Parque de La Marina and go east on the nice wide path along the waterfront. There are both paved sections and a stretch of classic wooden boardwalk. Runners can enjoy views of historic ships on one side, and views of the city walls, bulwarks, clock towers and other old town attractions to the opposite side. Just past the Pegasus Pier (Muelle de Los Pegasos), bear right on Calle 24 and follow it around the corner. The route travels along a colorful commercial strip with a waterfront park. At the Calle 25 bridge, turn RIGHT to cross, and be sure to look back for great skyline and marina views. The opposite side of the bridge is the Manga neighborhood. Continue straight until the intersection with Calle 16, then turn RIGHT back towards the water and Calle 24. Arrive at Parque Pastillo, which features stationary strength training equipment as well as a manicured waterfront path along the marina. The path ends in a plaza roughly across from Calle 23. In total, the route is about 2.6 km one way, or 5.3 km out and back.

Add-Ons: The easiest add-on is the Bocagrande Waterfront route for 3.5 km along Carrera 1, directly accessible from Parque Marina.
