Features:
Withlacoochee State Forest offers some of the best trail running options in the Citrus County area. This massive area attracts some 1 million visitors annually. There are non-adjacent ‘tracts’, each with its own unique features, trail options, and downloadable maps (see this page for more). Keep an eye out for mountain bikers! A few highlights:
Citrus Tract. 50,000 acre area. Most of the trails are fire roads and good for running. Just south of Highway 44 in Inverness.
Holder Mine Area/Mutual Mine Area. In Inverness. Good option for longer run. Citrus A Loop Trail is 8.6 miles. Citrus B Loop Trail is 17.3 miles. Citrus C Loop is 16.9 miles. Citrus D Loop is 19.4 miles.
Tillis Hill Recreation Area. North of W Stage Coach Trail. Equestrian trails: One Day Trail is 12 miles. Two Day Trail is 24 miles.
Homossa Tract. Three Rooks Loop Trail is 2.7 miles.
Two Mile Prairie Tract. Between Hernando and Citrus Springs. Features an 8.4 mile equestrian trail.
Johnson Pond. In Dunnellon. A 2.6 mile hiking trail loop and additional trails
