Pinellas Trail – St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Tarpon Springs

Wikimedia

The Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail is a linear park and recreation trail extending for 54 miles from St. Petersburg to Clearwater, Tarpon Springs and Pasco County. Created along an abandoned railroad corridor, the trail provides a unique, protected greenspace for multiple activities. There are mile markers along the trail and the wayfinding is good.

The trail is a great option for runners in the area. We’ve included a map of the entire trail, and charts with segment distances. Which section of the trail you do depends on where you’re staying in this area. Some of the nicer sections of the trail:

  • Downtown St. Petersburg: the trail crosses dozens of pedestrian bridges with pleasant urban views.  The 0.25-mile Cross Bayou Bridge, which spans Boca Ciega Bay, is a highlight.
  • Clearwater/Dunedin: The trail in Clearwater is more urban, but there’s a nice section around Dunedin and through downtown.
  • Nice Gulf Scenery in Palm Harbor pause on the Bayshore Boulevard pedestrian bridge. Mile Marker 29.
