Fredenbaumpark is an expansive green space for running in the northern part of Dortmund (Nortstadt). The park features a pleasant network of paths, a combination with a fair bit forested. Key features include the Big Tipi — the world’s largest Tipi, at 35m, a couple of small lakes and some nice gardens. Add with paths along the nearby Ems-Kanal.

Fredenbaumpark

Use our mapped route as a guide. A loop of Fredenbaumpark is ~3 km. At the north end is a running track at the Mendesportanlage stadium. For a longer run, use Beethovenstraße to cross the main road and do a loop on the paths around the Naturmuseum (Museum of Natural History). This can add up to 2 km out & back. For a longer run, add with the Ems-Kanal Path.

Ems-Kanal Path

Just west of Fredenbaumpark is a path along the Dortmund-Ems-Kanal. To access it from Fredenbaumpark, use Weidenstraße, accessed from a connector path at the northwest end of the park.

It’s a gravel path alongside the west bank of the canal. There are nice views of the fairly narrow canal. The path heads north for ~6 km, to the Im Seesack Nature Preserve, just short of Highway 2.
