Phoenix See is a scenic lake in the southeastern part of Dortmund and a popular spot for a run. The man-made lake was built on the site of a former steel mill. A loop on the paved paths is just short of 4 km. There are separate paths for pedestrians and bicycles.
The best access to the lake is from the northeast end, near the Hampton Inn. The south part of the loop features paths right along the lake, while sections along the northern end are a bit inland. The lake features two observation decks (Aussichtspunkt auf dem Kaiserberg & Bellevue). There are also several lakeside cafés and restaurants.
Longer Run Options: Westfalenpark is just west of the lake, using the 1.4 km Emscherpromenade (path) through Halde Schallacker & Hoetger Park.
