Smith Lake Recreation Area & East Bragg Running Trails

bragg.armymwr.com

Smith Lake Recreation Area is a great spot for a trail run. It’s officially part of Fort Bragg, but is open to the public year-round. Smith Lake is also popular for its beach, lake, and as a mountain biking destination.

For trail runners, there’s something for everyone among the 7-8 miles of trails. One can put together a 7-mile loop that overlaps with the mountain bike trails and gets progressively hillier and with more challenging footing. On this trail map, Green is easiest, Blue is more challenging, and Black is ‘expert’.  There’s also a 5 km Nature Trail.

East Bragg Running Trails. There are some running/hiking trails in Fort Bragg off Logistics St., a couple of miles west of Smith Rock Lake. They’re between Hwy 24 & Bragg Blvd., near the Stryker Golf Course.

Essentials
  • Several miles of trails, with loop options of various lengths & difficulty
  • Trails range in level of difficulty from easy to challenging
  • Depends on trail chosen
  • Off Smith Lake Rd.

I love these trails! I even saw a Fox Squirrel and her baby. I drive down from Raleigh to run these trails. You can configure a.variety of loops to suit your sense of adventure and keep it fresh.
