There are some of the nicest neighborhoods in Gainesville for running. They feature tree-shaded streets, sidewalks (or very little traffic), and lovely homes to look at. They’re also a good shade option on a hot day.
Downtown Area Historic Districts. There are three historic districts near downtown Gainesville that are pleasant for running and relatively near each other.
- Duckpond. South of NE 8th, using NE Blvd. as an anchor. Some lovely, quiet roads with an attractive tree canopy and historic homes.
- Pleasant St. Historic District. Just west of Duckpond, and north of University Ave. As part of this, the 6th St. Rail Trail runs for 0.8 miles between NE 5th Ave. & NW 16 Ave.
- University Park. Just north of the University of Florida campus
Haile Plantation. This 1,700-acre planned community, located southwest of Gainesville, is designed with a ‘new urbanism’ motif. There are quiet, windings roads with paths and sidewalks, and nice tree shade. It’s an enjoyable place for a run!
