Morningside Nature Center is Gainesville’s premier nature park. Located just northeast of downtown, the 268-acre preserve is one of the last remaining examples of fire-dependent longleaf pine woodlands in the area. There are 6+ miles of trails winding through sandhill, flatwoods, cypress domes, and areas where native vegetation is being restored. The area is also known for its wildflowers.
There are no digital or printable trail maps of Morningside. But there is a map kiosk at the environmental nature center. This hiking trail guide has more detailed descriptions of the various trails. The trails have generally good footing — it’s fairly easy trail running.
