Bourgoyen-Ossemeersen Nature Reserve

Wikimedia Commons

The 220-hectare Bourgoyen-Ossemeersen Nature Reserve offers wonderful trails for running just west of Ghent old town. It’s mainly a wetlands type area, with a variety of paths and terrain: fields, woods, marshy meadows, and even some modest hills. A loop of the outskirts is ~ 7.5 km. The park preserve site itself has mapped out three loops that are popular for running/walking/hiking. It’s trail running but not challenging.

Bourgoyenpad. Blue path, 5.5 km
Railway Embankment. Yellow path, 2 km
Meerskantpad. Red path, 2 km
Add-On: The Watersportbaan is adjacent to the southern end of the Preserve.
Essentials
  • Three marked trails: Blue Path is 5.5 km, Red Path is 2 km, Yellow Path is 2 km.
  • Flat
  • At park
  • Best transport access is to eastern end. Parking lot at northeast end of park
