Gulf Shores Roads and Trails for Running

Wikimedia Commons

We’ve developed separate posts for some of the signature roads and trails in the Gulf Shores area for running. Here are some additional spots we recommend for running in the Gulf Shores area:

Fort Morgan Rd. Multi-Use Path. This paved multi-use path runs along Fort Morgan Rd. (Rt. 180) from just east of the Gulf State Park Headquarters, for 7 miles west to Peninsula Blvd., near the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club. ROUTE MAP (One-Way). It’s not that scenic and a bit monotonous, but a good opportunity for a longer off-road run.

Rt. 182/Beach Blvd. A classic beach area road, this is the main east-west road close to the water. There’s a good shoulder/bike lane most of the way, but we recommend running opposite traffic. It runs for nearly 15 miles from just east of Orange Beach, west to the end of Little Lagoon. It’s not terribly scenic, as most of the road lacks water views. It’s also open and exposed. From Orange Beach heading west, the road is called Perdido Beach Blvd., and then changes to East Beach Blvd. and then West Beach Blvd.

Johnson Beach Rd. The prettiest road for running in the area. The road goes for 3 miles from Perdido Key Dr., east to the end, in Johnson Beach National Seashore. There are sand dunes and water views on both sides of the road. No shoulder/sidewalk, but the road is lightly trafficked.
