This is a lovely run along paths on both sides of the River Ness, including a loop around the Ness Islands. It’s right in the center of Inverness and is a great anchor for exploring the city, while also providing access to other good running spots. There are waterfront paths & sidewalks on both sides of the river between Waterloo Bridge and the Ness Islands, making for a nice 4 mile loop with water views the whole way.

We start at the centrally located Ness Bridge, on the east side of the river. Head north toward the bay (Beauly/Moray Firth), crossing the Waterloo Bridge and running back on the west side, for a 1.2 mile loop. Then, continue south on the Ness Walk on the west side of the river for 1 mile, passing the Inverness Cathedral, and Bught Park Pitches (park), crossing onto the Ness Islands. Run to the end of the island, then return north for 1/2 mile, crossing to the east side of the River Ness and returning to the start.
Add-Ons: From west side of the river at the Ness Islands, can continue onto paths at Whin Park/Canal Park, and then more waterfront running along the Caledonian Canal (see our route there).

This route in central Inverness that has it all: River Ness & Caledonian Canal paths, Ness Islands, parks, gardens, a castle, fields, woods, bridges, and a running track.
Several miles of pleasant gravel paths for running alongside the Caledonian Canal. Particularly scenic is the direction south to Moray Firth. The path also goes for several miles north to Dochgarroch Locks.
A nice run with scenery and history, combining trails in the Culloden Woods with paths around the historic Culloden Battlefield -- a site very much worth visiting. Just east of Inverness.
