Features:
This nearly 6-mile loop in southern Iowa City combines Riverfront Crossings Park, Napoleon Park, Terry Trueblood Park. It’s one of our favorites in the area. One can do this entire route, sections of it, and even add the Sycamore Greenway for a longer option. Surfaces are paved the whole way.
Start at Riverfront Crossings Park, heading south on the Iowa River Trail. At 1 mile, pass through Napoleon Park, which features ball fields and a wooded section of the Iowa River Trail. Cross McCollister Blvd. into the Terry Trueblood Rec Area, and enjoy the ~2 mile scenic loop around Sand Lake. Retrace your steps to the start.
Add-On/Alternative: Sycamore Greenway. Take the paved path alongside McCollister Blvd. for 1.2 miles east to the Sycamore Greenway, and enjoy that 2-mile multi-use path between Lakeside Dr. & Iowa City Kickers Soccer Park. The landscape is open, passing through fields. It’s ~6.6 miles if taking it from Terry Trueblood Rec Area. Can also add with more along the Iowa River Trail.
- 5.9 miles (9.4 km) out & back. Sycamore Greenway is 2 miles, and it's 1.2 miles to get there from Trueblood Rec Area.
- Generally flat
