Highland Park, located in the eastern part of Pittsburgh, is a wonderful area for running. The centerpiece is historic Highland Park, located at the northern edge of the neighborhood. Built in 1889, the park features numerous trails, bike track, swimming pool, sand volleyball courts, and the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium.

For running, there are 4 miles of trails in the 734-acre Highland Park. A highlight is the 3/4 mile loop around the Reservoir. Combine this with the 1.2 mile paved walkway paralleling Reservoir Dr., and the outer trails including the 0.5 mile loop around Carnegie Lake.

We also love combining the park with the historic neighborhood directly south. These are wide, leafy streets, with Victorian & other historic homes. There are several longer streets running ~1 mile south to Liberty Blvd. N. Highland Ave. is one our favorites. There are also nicer east-west streets such as Jackson, Stanton, & Hampton. Enjoy fun cafes & restaurants along Bryant Ave. near the park.
