Meuse River Path Headed North

Creative Commons 3.0 Germany: Bronstein

There are various ways to mix and match paths along the Meuse and Orthe rivers in Liège. This route is focused on the path headed north along the Muese River. It’s part of the RAVeL 1 long distance cycleway. We’ve mapped up to 21 km north to the Pont de Lanaye in Vise, which is practically the outskirts of Maastricht.

From the center of Liège, a good place to start is on the east side of the river at the Aquarium, just across the John F. Kennedy Bridge. Head north along the waterside path, which has various surfaces including brick and stone. There are nice views of the river and of the historic centre across the way. At 2 km, use Pont Atlas (bridge) to cross to Parc Astrid, where the path continues on the west side. Run north as long as you like. A recommended distance is the 6 km to Herstal. North of there, the path isn’t as scenic and gets somewhat monotonous.

Add-Ons: Can mix and match with our Meuse/Orthe south route and our Liège ‘runseeing’ tour. Also, more opportunities for running on the Meuse Cycle Route (EuroVelo 19), from From Namur to Roermond, which passes through Liege.
