Chongqing, China

Creative Commons

Chongqing, located in southwestern China, is one of China’s largest cities and also now one of the most populous in the world, at over 25 million. The inland, hilly city lies at the confluence of the Jialing and Yangtze Rivers, and consists of six central districts. Chonqing is one of the best cities for running in China, with a huge and developing network of trails. The hills surrounding the city offer great trail running opportunities.

The best places to run in Chongqing are the ~30 km of paths along the Jialing & Yangtze Rivers, where we’ve mapped several routes. Also centrally located is a lovely route combining Eling Park & Fotuguan Park. Chongqing Central Park is one of the larges urban parks in China and is a great spot for a run. Other good parks for running include: Longtousi Park; Shuangshan Jinyu Park (and its scenic Dadukou “Sky Corridor” Trail; Hong’ensi Forest Park atop 400m Longjing Hill; and jogging trails in the Lijia neighborhood and AVIC Town Park in Longxing. Near Jiangbei Int’l Airport, Bijin Park & Shuanglonghu Park offer excellent running and are near the metro and hotels.

Runner Notes: The city is very hilly. Outside the river paths, it’s hard to find a flat route. Also note the city receives comparatively little sunshine. Also, it’s difficult to map some of the routes specifically, because they are changing rapidly and also most mapping apps don’t cover Chonqing,
