Côte Vermeille & Roussilon Coast

Port-Vendres. Jorge Franganillo

This is a running guide to the coastal region in the French department of Pyrénées-Orientales on the Mediterranean Coast near the border with Spain. It includes: the Roussilon Coast (Plages du Roussillon), an area of wide, sandy beaches anchored by Canet-en-Roussillon; and the more rugged Côte Vermeille (Vermilion Coast), running from Collioure to Cerbère. The focus is on coastal routes, which includes numerous seafront promenades & beachside paths.

Our guide to running the Rousillon coast includes routes in Le Barcarès, Canet-en-Roussillon, Saint-Cyprien, and Argelès-sur-Mer. On the Côte Vermeille, we have routes in Collioure and Port-Vendres. Note that the beaches along this coast, while wide and sandy, feature soft sand and are not great for running. See also our running guide to Perpignan, just 15 km to the west.
