Citrus County is a quieter part of northwestern Florida, and includes the communities of Crystal River, Floral Springs, Homosassa, and Inverness. The area, known as the ‘Manatee Capital of the World’ is relatively undeveloped — for Florida — and has some quite scenic spots for running. Among the best places to run in Citrus County are the loops around Inglis Island and Crystal River Preserve State Park. There’s some nice road running in Crystal River, along Kings Bay. For a long-distance off-road run, 20+ miles of the paved Withlacoochee State Trail multi-use path runs through Citrus County, connecting several parks and preserves. There’s also lots of off-road running in the extensive Withlacoochee State Forest. Many thanks to Aurélie Vilmer, who inspired several of these routes!
A pleasant road run in the Crystal River area, featuring nice views of Kings Bay and some small parks and preserves. In winter, you might spot a manatee! Includes Three Sisters Springs, Hunter Springs Park, and Kings Bay Park.
