João Pessoa is a port city in northeastern Brazil. It’s the state of Paraíba’s capital and largest city. João Pessoa is known for its 20 km of beachfront, with gorgeous crystalline sand and a festive scene. The beaches are 7 km from downtown. Running in João Pessoa is a mixed bag. While there’s scenic running along the beaches, the options in the downtown area are more limited.

The best place to run in João Pessoa is the 8 km seafront path along Cabo Branco & Tambaú beaches — where you’ll be at the easternmost point in the Americas. Further north, there’s some decent running in the Parahyba Linear Park, just inland from Alécia Beach and Bessa Beach. If downtown, the best running option is the 1 km loop around Parque da Lagoa and the cycle path along Av. Min. José Américo de Almeida to Cabo Branco Beach.

Runners should note João Pessoa features a tropical monsoon climate, with hot, humid temperatures year-round and heavy rains from March through August.
