A charming city straddling the Danube River midway between Salzburg and Vienna, Linz is the capital of Upper Austria and Austria’s third largest city. The older part of the city is on the south side of the river, centered around the Hauptplatz, the main square. The newer part of the city is on the north side. The area is surrounded by pretty countryside and mountains. The are some great options for running in Linz, with excellent transport access.
The best places to run in Linz are centered around the Danube River, with extensive paths on both the north and south sides. We’ve also put together a route incorporating the Schlosspark castle park and other central Linz parks & sites. Another favorite spot is Wasserwald, a ‘water forest park’ with several km of paths. For some countryside running including paths along the Traun River and several lake loop options, take the light rail or train to Ebeslberg.
Linz has excellent public transport, including light tail and trains.
