This is a fun 5 km run combining the Schlosspark castle park and the nearby Freinberg Park. We’ve also added a longer option incorporating additional small parks and a jaunt through central Linz.

Start at Hauptplatz, Linz’s main square, and head west along the cobblestoned Hofgasse, a hilly road/stairs that lead to the Schlosspark. There are nice grounds in this castle park, which also includes the modern Schlossmuseum at the site of the Linz Castle. From Schlosspark, continue west for 0.5 km along Römerstraße, a pleasant street passing typical Linz homes, with nice views from Römerberg. Then, do the pleasant loop around Freinberg Park, which has wooded paths and several observation decks, with nice views of the city and the Danube. Retrace your steps back to the start.
Longer Option: Exit Freinberg Park and run south along the tree-shaded Freinbergstraße for 1 km, then LEFT on Rosenggerstraße, passing the botanical garden, to Bauernberg Park. Continue east of the park along Wachreinergasse to another park, Volksgarten, and then south toward Linz center through Schillerpark, taking Herrenstraße past the giant New Cathedral and a pedestrianized central part of Old Linz.
Add-Ons: Can continue east into Donaulände Park and our south side Danube route, or our north side Danube route.

This 'water forest park' located 6 km south of Linz City Center is a great spot for a run. Several km of paths, including a 2.1 km 'running course'. Combination of woods & open fields. Good transport access
For some pleasant countryside running, head to Ebelesberg, ~10 km south of Linz. There's a long path along the Traun River to the Asten Locks, and loops around Ausee Lake, Weikerlseen Lake, & Pichlinger Lake.
